Here is a small wall or maybe table runner quilt that I made a while back:
When it came time to quilt it I tried out something I had been thinking about for a while... embellishing and expanding machine embroidery stitches with hand embroidery. There are endless possibilities with this combination. I chose a fairly simple ladder machine stitch and added "legs" on either side with three strands of embroidery floss. Here is the result:
I used a walking foot for the machine stitching, and that pulled the stitching apart a bit. Here is just the machine stitching part of the design:
My husband named this quilt when he said "Hey, that quilting looks like your surgery scar."
