Quite a while back, I saw a tutorial online for making baskets out of strips of newspaper or magazines. (You can see it here.) Having a lot of newspapers available, I thought I'd give making one a try. Here is the result:
Not as beautiful as the baskets in the tutorial... In fact, it didn't really stand up on its own. The weaving was too loose. I didn't finish off the top edge. After it sat around for a month or two, I gave it to my small green bird. He loves to shred paper. Here is his first day's work:
I thought I would do a picture diary of the destruction, but he and I have concentration issues... working in fits and starts. So, here is a picture from later in the week:

Shortly after that, I got tired of cleaning up paper bits from the floor and I threw away the whole mess. That colorful, store-bought bird pinata is the focus of his efforts now, and it is coming apart in record time.
Thanks for this curious way of making a little bird happy. I am passing this story on to my sister who has a similar bird.
