Months ago, when August seemed very far away, I signed up for exhibit space in the local public library. I thought this would be the push needed for me to finally get around to working on some altered book projects that have been rattling around in my head for several years. I got out the books…stacked them here, moved them there…made a start on one…and then suddenly it is August. I’m beginning to think that I am not able to alter books. I grew up two blocks from the public library “back home”, and lived to check out and read stacks and stacks of books. I took the responsibility of borrowed books seriously! Always used a bookmark, never laid an open book face down. It still bothers me to see my husband fold down page corners to mark his place in paperbacks he owns (which is fine-it is his book after all). I never was comfortable highlighting my textbooks, or making notes in the margins of book club books. I can’t even fold down the corner of a magazine. Why did I think I could glue and cut up a book, no matter how old and unwanted!
Anyway, I did manage to get a few old projects finished up and hung at the library, along with some older stuff. And as usual, it all seems to be a bit “Birdy”.
These pieces have really creative names, LOL, “Leaf Study with Redbird”, “Leaf Study with Yellowbird”,
“Leaf Study with Bluebird”, and “Leaf Study with Blackbird”.
I love these leaf studies. I love anything incorporating leaves and you did a fine job. Your little birdie's a lovely too. I wish I lived closer and could wander in and see your wonderful display.
