Quite a few years ago, my husband and I took a quick trip without kids to Key West, Florida. We had a great time, although our memories are a bit fuzzy due to the easy availability of tasty frozen rum drinks. But one thing I do remember well is a visit to Key West Fabrics. We got to see how they print fabric by hand there, using large silk screens and tables that were long enough to stretch out an entire bolt of fabric. Naturally, I bought several yards of fabric to bring home with me, along with a bag of precut squares of their scraps. There was a beautiful quilt in the factory store that had been made out of similar squares, but I didn't buy enough squares to reproduce it for myself. I kept thinking I'd make these fabric scraps into half-triangle squares, which would double the number of squares for my quilt project. So, years go by, and a couple of months ago I decided to finally make the quilt. Right up until I started cutting fabric, I planned on using white fabric for the other half of each square. As you can see, some very pink fabric got in my line of sight, and was used instead.
So, pink it is....and I ended up with enough half triangle blocks to make two pillow shams to go with the quilt. And even a couple left over to make TV remote holding bags. (We have a serious TV addiction in my house.)
This quilt would be a "take to college" quilt for daughter number two if she decides she wants it. But it works well on her bed here at home, too, so either way is fine.
